Carrot Cake Murder

Carrot Cake Murder - Joanne Fluke More recipes than usual. The mystery was good.

Odd Apocalypse

Odd Apocalypse - Dean Koontz Better. The last couple in this series had me worried that the greatness of the first three books would not be seen again. This one was very good.

The Son CD: The Son CD

The Son CD: The Son CD - Philipp Meyer I enjoyed the book. it is a multi - cultural epic told by three members of the McCullough family. Eli, whose family was murdered by Comanches. He later is adopted by the tribe. His son, Peter, who is a decent man and whose decency makes him an outcast in his own family. Peter's granddaughter, Jeanie, who is the last member of the McCullough family who feels a.tie to the land. This is not a feel good novel and at times is very grim. Interesting book.

Key Lime Pie Murder

Key Lime Pie Murder - Joanne Fluke One of the better Hannah Swensen mysteries. In this one, the Fair has come to Lake Eden. Hannah is on the baked goods committee along with Willa Sunquist. Willa is murdered and Hannah, of course, discovers the body. Hannah investigates with her usual crew, Norman, Lisa, Andrea and Michelle. Also, something is wrong with Moishe (Norman is on the case). Hannah discovers who the killer is and almost gets killed herself. Good book. Team Norman all the way!

Odd Interlude: A Special Odd Thomas Adventure

Odd Interlude: A Special Odd Thomas Adventure - Dean Koontz To me, this is the weakest of the Odd Thomas books.

Death of a Hussy (Hamish Macbeth Mysteries, No. 5)

Death of a Hussy (Hamish Macbeth Mysteries, No. 5) - M.C. Beaton Not as good as the others in the series.

Light

Light - Michael Grant Amazing finish to the Gone series.

Longbourn

Longbourn - Jo Baker This is one of the best books I have read all year. This book takes place in the servants quarters of Longbourn. As a fan of Pride and Prejudice, I try not to read any sequels. This book is not a sequel to P&P. Instead it runs concurrently with P & P. It is the story of the servants. Mr. and Mrs. Hill, Sarah and Polly, the housemaids and a footman who arrives at Longbourn at the beginning of the novel. James, the footman, is has a mysterious secret. Sarah, yearns to get away from Longbourn. When the Bingleys arrive at Netherfield, so too does a handsome half black servant who Sarah finds intriguing. The author writes so beautifully and so descriptively that you feel transported to that time period. While James is falling in love with Sarah and trying to keep himself away from her, Mrs. Hill is guarding her secret. A secret that we later find out ties masters and servants together. Mr. Wickham is even more evil than in P&P. Sarah's life is hard but she fights for love and makes a decision that Mrs. Hill couldn't. This book is so good it is equal to P&P in drawing you in until you are completely immersered in the lives of all the characters. I ardently admire this book and highly recommend it.

This Is Where I Leave You

This Is Where I Leave You - Jonathan Tropper I read this book for book club. The author was trying too hard to be funny and none of the characters were very likeable. I am glad to be finished reading it.

Death of a Gossip

Death of a Gossip - M.C. Beaton I am reading my first Hamish Macbeth. Really good. In this one at a fishing school, a gossip columnist has dirt on the other member os the class. Everyone has reason to want to kill her. Hamish, the constable, is om the case. It reminded me of an Agatha Christie. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one.

Brother Odd

Brother Odd - Dean Koontz I love Odd Thomas. In this one our simple hero, Odd, is seeking solace at St. Bartholemew's abbey after his last adventure. The abbey houses children who are physically and mentally handicapped. One of the monks is murdered and Odd is attacked, there is a mysterious Russian and the monks and nuns have to defend and fortify the abbey against something terrifying. The verbal sparring between Odd nd the Russian is hilarious. And Stormy helps Odd through a little girl. Wonderful book.

Valentine Murder

Valentine Murder - Leslie Meier Lucy Stone is ready for her first day on the Library Board. When she gets to the library, she discovers the body of the Librarian. The other board members are the suspects. Lucy is on the case.

Takedown Twenty

Takedown Twenty - Janet Evanovich It's like visiting an old friend whenever I read a new Stephanie Plum. It's just a funny cozy mystery. She and Lula are trying to pick up bad guys. Lula has become obsessed with Kevin, the giraffe. Stephanie may try her hand at being a butcher. She's working with Ranger trying to solve the mystery of the string of old lady murders. And she may be ready to have the commitment talk with Joe. Will Grandma Mazur be the next victim? Lots of laughs, really fun.

The Compound

The Compound - S.A. Bodeen This book was good. It's about a boy named Eli whose father has created an underground shelter in case of a nuclear attack. One night Eli and his family are rushed into the shelter and the door is closed not to open again for 15 years. Eli realizes that his twin was left on the outside. After 6 years, Eli's family is still underground and food starts to become an issue. There is a room with a yellow door that houses "the supplements". Very interesting book.

The Mark of Athena

The Mark of Athena - Rick Riordan Great book. All the demigods are together in this one. Percy and Annabeth are reunited. We get some backstory of some of the characters. Hard decisions have to be made by our heroes.

Insurgent

Insurgent - Veronica Roth This book was not good. What happened? I kept reading, thinking this book was going to get better because Divergent was sooooo good. Tris was a great character in the first book. In this book, she is so needy, I thought I was reading Twilight. It is just not good. I liked the first book so much and am really disappointed in this one. I don't think I'll be reading the last book. I just can't go through the torture again.
