This was a very good book. It is the fictional story of the Cheyenne Indians requesting 1,000 white women from President Grant. The Cheyenne wanted to have children with the white women in order to have their children be accepted by white people. The government hoped that the brides would help the Indians assimilate to the white culture. This book is the "journals" of one of those women. May Dodd escaped an insane asylum where her family had put her for her promiscuity. She was promised freedom, if she volunteered for the program. Her goal was to spend her two years with the Cheyenne and regain her freedom so she could reunite with her two children who were taken from her when she was committed to the asylum. Very interesting story.
